The Richard Hallebeek Project

With Lale Larson & Bas Cornelissen feat. Brett Garsed & Shawn Lane

This self titled cd from Richard Hallebeek will hopefully put him at the forefront of the new rising as its of a very high caliber throughout….I get the feeling this band will be killer in the live setting. Fans of jazz rock/fusion make sure you check this out!

Andy Craven - virtuosityOne

One of the most solid fusion recordings I have had the pleasure to hear in years…in your face jazz/rock at it’s very best.

Personal comments

This is probably the most demanding recording I have ever done. It’s not exactly the kind of music that you just go in and sight-read. This took a lot of practise. Todd didn’t even write some of the parts down. He would just give it to me on a CD, played in real time, and then I had to pick it out by ear and transcribe it. The whole interlude in “Ridiculosous” for instance I had to pick out by ear since Todd had improvised the line when he recorded it. Even though the actual recording was too much work to be real fun sometimes, I’m still pretty happy with most of my playing on there. Learning all the guitar lines was a great challenge and
improvising solos to this kind of music is almost like composing. It has to sound a certain way to stay true to the E-250 sound. The whole album was a great learning experience and a challenge, and I’m always up for a challenge.

Electrocution 250 boldly goes where no mere mortals would dare tread. A revolutionary statement “Cartoon Music from Hell” is a masterpiece of originality.

All these volumes were only made in small quantities and they featured, in Varneys opinion, some of the worlds greatest guitarists. The CD’s are now out of print and extremely rare to find. The Guitar On The Edge CD’s were released 4 times annually by executive producer Mark Varney.

Personal comments

This was the first official recording I did with Todd Duane (under the name Prodigy, this was before the “firestarter” group) This was also one of the first tunes for our upcoming Shrapnel release that never came to be, I was 19 at the time. Varney asked Todd and me to contribute something to this volume of Guitar On The Edge and we composed Schizoid together. A weird combination of bluegrass and fast doublebass drums, a bit of Coltrane’s “Giant Steps”, Van Halen and a lot of humour. This was definitely the first attempt of the “Electrocution 250″ sound. I remember that I had to practise really hard to be able to double the guitar lines that comes after the solos.

Track 6. PRODIGY/Schizoid: An 8 track demo from their upcoming Shrapnel release, with Todd Duane, guitar and bass, Lale Larsen, keyboards. Todd and Lale teach at the American Institute of Music in Vienna, Austria.(They spelled my name wrong on the backcover)
